Turkey’s investment potential and opportunities were discussed at the Turkey, Italy and the U.S. Trade, Investment and Arbitration Panel.Italian Ambassador to Ankara Giorgio Marrapodi noted that the centuries of active commerce between Rome and Istanbul, where Florentine and Ottoman bankers worked with each other, continues today and added: “I believe in Turkey’s strategic strength, potential, significance for Europe and the future of its close links with Italy.” Speaking at the ‘Turkey, Italy and the US Trade, Investments and Arbitration Panel’, Marrapodi emphasized that “Turkey is Europe’s gate to the Middle East. It is very important to build personal relations and bridges that will last for centuries. Turkey’s status and significance is always strong in the eyes of the world. This is an example that there will be economic and political ties.”
MANUFACTURING CENTER
Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Association President Livio Manzini said that the mutual commercial volume between Turkey and Italy has grown to 23 billion dollars and added, “Italy has risen to the 3rd rank in foreign country investments in Turkey with almost 5 billion industrial investments.” Manzini said, “Turkey has become an important manufacturing center. At the moment, the biggest manufacturing center in Europe is Germany. Italy is coming in second rank. If Turkey were a member of the European Union, it would be the third largest country in this ranking.” Ahmet Burak Dağlıoğlu, President of the Presidential Investment Office, stated the following: “ The industrial sector, the chemical sector, the food and beverage sector, and many other sectors operate in synchronization with world commerce. The 100 million dollar investment of Amazon in Turkey is an example of this. Turkey is this place. It demonstrates clearly that Turkey is on its way to become a strength center in the region as a logistics and manufacturing center.”
